Hougang United Partners Assisi Hospice in 2018 To Raise Awareness For Palliative Care

In line with Ministry of Health’s (MOH) efforts to work with community partners to promote awareness of palliative care and End-of-Life (EOL) conversations, Hougang United FC hopes to shine the spotlight on palliative care by highlighting our partnership with Assisi Hospice and its cause of caring people at the end-of-life. Through it, we hope that more people would know more about palliative care as a care solution, and be more open to discussing their care preferences in their final days with their loved ones.

In addition to sharing about the Assisi Hospice’s cause on our website and making a donation to Assisi Hospice, Hougang United Football Club also features the Assisi Hospice logo on its 2018 jersey.

Assisi Hospice, which was founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) Sisters in 1969, provides palliative care for patients and families that preserves their dignity and quality of life.

Assisi Hospice care for patients of any race, faith and financial position through its team of specialist doctors, nurses, allied health and pastoral care professionals. When faced with life-limiting illnesses, the patients receive medical care, as well as psychosocial, emotional and spiritual support. To-date. it is the only hospice in Singapore to provide the whole continuum of palliative care, which include inpatient care, day care and home care services.

To cater to growing need for palliative care, Assisi Hospice moved into a new 6-storey purpose-built facility in 2017 so as to care for more patients at end-of-life. With 55% of Assisi’s patients belonging to the poorest of poor in Singapore, donations will ensure that they have access to palliative care. Assisi Hospice needs to raise $8 million through donations each year so that it can continue to care for patients in their final days.
