Hougang United return to Singapore Premier League action on Friday evening as the Cheetahs travel to Jurong East Stadium to face Tanjong Pagar United in Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 season.
With just four days separating our previous fixture against Balestier Khalsa and Friday's encounter, Akbar Nawas' side will be looking to respond quickly and secure our first league victory of the new campaign.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
LOOKING TO RESPOND
The Cheetahs head into Friday's fixture following a narrow 1-2 defeat against Balestier Khalsa at Bishan Stadium on Monday evening.
After conceding twice in the opening ten minutes, Hougang responded through Lucas Cardoso, who headed home an excellent free-kick delivery from Ayman Kassimi midway through the first half.
The match became more challenging when Huzaifah Aziz was sent off following a VAR review before the interval.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Hougang continued searching for an equaliser, with Arya Igami and Kassimi both going close during the second half.
A second dismissal, this time for Khairin Nadim, left the Cheetahs with nine players in the closing stages as Balestier held on to claim the three points.
Although the result was disappointing, the determination shown by the team provides something to build on ahead of Friday's return to Jurong East.
OUR OPPONENTS
Tanjong Pagar United will provide another important test as the Cheetahs look to establish momentum in the early stages of the campaign.
The Jaguars, who play their home fixtures at Jurong East Stadium, are also looking to build their position in the Singapore Premier League as the season progresses.
The two clubs met on several occasions during the previous campaign, with both sides recording victories in their league encounters.
Friday's meeting will be the first between Hougang and Tanjong Pagar in the 2026/27 Singapore Premier League season, with another three points at stake.
A QUICK TURNAROUND
For Hougang, Friday represents an opportunity to put Monday's result behind us and turn our attention towards the next challenge.
The Cheetahs have shown attacking promise during the opening three league fixtures, with Ayman Kassimi, Oakley Cannonier and Lucas Cardoso all finding the net.
Cardoso's header against Balestier was his first league goal for the club, while Kassimi registered another important attacking contribution with the assist.
With the squad continuing to develop its understanding and several players gaining valuable minutes during the early weeks of the season, the focus now turns towards producing a positive performance away from home.
The short turnaround leaves little time between fixtures, but also offers an immediate opportunity to respond.
BACK TO JURONG EAST
Friday will be Hougang's third visit to Jurong East Stadium in less than a month.
The Cheetahs previously travelled to the venue for our league meeting with FC Jurong on 18 September, before returning for a friendly against the same opponents on 3 October.
This time, Tanjong Pagar United will be the hosts as Hougang look to secure a positive result on the road.
We would love to see the Hougang faithful making the journey west and continuing to stand behind the team.
Your support remains an important part of our season, and we look forward to hearing the orange and black at Jurong East once again.
