A goal in each half from Miroslav Pejic was enough to see the Cheetahs suffering their first defeat of the season.

It is a ground that the Cheetahs have not enjoyed playing at, with just two wins in their last eight meetings. However, a Hougang team full of confidence looks like they were going to salvage points in this fixture.

The teams were quite even in the first 25 minutes of the game. The Cheetahs even came close to score. A failed clearance from Hassan Sunny rebounded into an advancing Azhar Sairudin who almost bundled the ball into the net but it instead went wide for a goalkick.

Warriors then took the lead on 27th minute amidst controversial circumstances. Miroslav Pejic received the ball from Irwan Shah but with the linesman initially flagging for offside, the Hougang defence stopped playing. The referee waved play on and with Pejic unmarked in the six yard box, he slotted the ball for an easy goal.

That put the Cheetahs into action and they attacked throughout the rest of the first half. The Cheetahs found themselves with a man advantage on the 37th minute when Hassan Sunny was sent off for handling Shunsuke Nakatake’s goalbound shot outside the box.

In the second half, Hougang dominated proceedings but could not find a way through a packed and stubborn Warriors defence. Diego Gama had a golden chance to seal the equalizer, but he could not reach Nurhilmi Jasni’s grounded cross.

Instead, the Cheetahs conceded the second goal from a counter attack. Nicholas Velez received the ball from a clearance and sauntered towards the defence. Miroslav Pejic managed to dribble past Nazri Sabri in goal and slotted the ball into an empty net for his second goal of the night.

The Cheetahs will face Home United next Thursday at Bishan Stadium
