The Cheetahs went on a one-day friendly game in Pasir Gudang, Johor, to warm up for the upcoming S.League games and came back with another morale booster win, this time against Malaysian Premier League side, Johor.
The Cheetahs are on a 12-day competitive break, ever since their defeat to Geylang International on March 28. Besides that, they had another friendly against Lions XII on April 1, which they have won 2-1
The game was held right across the Causeway to the home of Johor’s second team. Eventhough they were a Malaysian Premier League side (2nd tier), however the team is boosted by majority of Johor FC’s team last season, particularly Andreizinho, who had been recognised as their top targetman last season.
However, Hougang managed to pull out all stops and Liam Shotton, our lanky British striker managed to grab an all-important goal in the 66th minute, after some good work from Azhar Sairudin.
The Cheetahs almost managed more than one goal, if not for a Fairoz Hassan one-on-one with K.Sasikumar, in which the Johor keeper managed to palm it away. Sobrie Mazelan and Jerome Baker too, had their shots hitting the crossbar for more than one occasion.
The Cheetahs returned to Singapore immediately to prepare for their next game against Balestier Khalsa, in which they will play their first game at the Rightful Abode, Hougang Stadium on April 9.
