2015.10.20 HGFC vs DPMM Match Preview

2015.10.20 HGFC vs DPMM 1On Tuesday evening, Hougang United will host the league table leaders Brunei DPMM in their final encounter this season at Hougang Stadium. The foreign side has been on a remarkable run since the resumption of the S.League following the mid-season transfer window. In 12 league games since, they have lost only once. In all competitions, that record stretches to just two losses in 15 games. They have lost only thrice in the league all season and not only have a three points lead ahead of their nearest challenger for the title, they also have a game in hand.

Highly impressive. But the Cheetahs need not feel too intimidated. After all, they have already defeated Brunei DPMM once this season in the League Cup competition and they followed that achievement with an away league draw at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium a month later in July. The Wasps also hold a win over Houngang United during the first round of the league all the way back in early April.

Notably though, the Cheetahs were the first side to prevent the Wasps from scoring in a game this year during that League Cup win. Since then, the Brunei side have failed to score in three further games though even then, those four games without scoring a goal remain the lowest for any side in the competition.

With 50 goals across 27 games in all competition, Steve Kean’s charges boast the highest scoring rate among all their rivals and with an astonishing 9 goals in their last three games, they have been on fire. On the other hand, they have also conceded 7 goals in those same three games. Only two of their 27 games have ended goalless. That is still one more than the number of goalless games that Hougang United have featured in. The odds for at least one goal on Tuesday should be good.

Rafael Ramazotti still leads the goalscoring charts with 21 goals in all competition, 16 in the league. His teammate Paulo Sergio has 12 goals in all competitions, 9 in the league. Azwan Ali has their team’s highest number of assists with 8 alongside his 4 goals. Together, the formidable attacking trio accounted for 6 goals and 3 assists in their last three games.

By contrast, Hougang United have been suffering a goal scoring issue as of late. Only one player, Nurhilmi Jasni, has scored in their last four games. Vuk Sotirovic has not scored in four games, Kunihiro Yamashita in five games, and Diego Gama in six games. Undoubtedly, they would all be aspiring to change that when they meet Brunei DPMM. Vuk, in particular, should be looking forward to this match – he’s scored two goals in as many games against the Wasps and will be looking to make it a trifecta on Tuesday.
