Former Home United prime league and Singapore U-21 defender 19-year-old Lionel Tan has join the ranks of the Hougang defensive third. He is the second defensive signing since Atsushi Shirota’s arrival last November.
As vice-captain for his prime league side, Lionel helped his squad achieve the double – winning the prime league championship as well as the Singapore FA Cup against Siglap FC. He made a total 20 out of 21 prime league appearances for Home United Prime League.
Standing at 1.83m tall, the centerback was the product of the NFA and also a nominee for the 2014 Dollah Kassim Award, an achievement his former coach Robin Chitrakar spoke highly of.
Lionel made his senior debut on 14 July 2016 against Albirex Niigata in the opening match of the New Paper League Cup.
The club is happy to have Lionel Tan boost our defenders roster. Welcome to Hougang United.
Lionel Tan’s message to fans and supporters,
“I’m glad to be here in HGFC with such passionate fans behind us. Rest assured, I’ll do my best in every training/match together with the team, and work towards making a successful season for HGFC. Let’s all make it a memorable 2017 season.”
