The Cheetahs received a mid-season coup in the coaching staff when former Singapore winger Samawira Basri joins the Cheetah’s coaching staff.
Samawira, 44 is well known for his dazzling skills in the wings. Samawira first played for the Singapore’s Malaysia Cup winning team in 1994 and also the player who famously equalised against Tottenham Hotspurs in 1995, when the Lions held Spurs 1-1 at the National Stadium.
Samawira also represented Tiong Bahru United, Home United, Clementi Khalsa and Jurong FC in the S.League, before hanging up his boots in 2004, after winning the Singapore Cup with the Cobras.
Samawira will be assisting coach Amin Nasir in the Hougang coaching staff. The pair also worked together with Fandi Ahmad at FAA. Samawira’s last coaching stint was with Vipers’ FAA last season.
Samawira replaced former assistant coach Muhd Azli, after the latter resigned his post as Hougang’s assistant coach. Also joining the coaching team with Wira is Azman Mohammad.
