There have been rumours, hearsay and murmurs about this imminent move. Bacina had had even been sighted at a friendly game against a local institution at the end of last year, and it looks like Nenad Bacina is finally set to be revealed as coach of Tampines Rovers for the 2013 season.
The 41-year-old told Croatian news portal Dalmacija News in an exclusive interview that he accepted Stags chairman Teo Hock Seng’s offer to take charge of the reigning champions in the S.League season 2013.
“I’ve decided to move into the ranks of the champions,” the former Hougang United coach said.
“It’s my biggest award of my coaching career. This is a club that always has an ambition to keep at the forefront of the S.League. The chairman is a good man who is also one of the chief organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix outside of football.
“When I came on board, he asked me ‘Will you be a champion?’ I replied, ‘I will’.”
The official announcement of Bacina’s appointment is set to be announced at Tampines Rovers’ pre-season press conference tomorrow morning, where the 2013 squad including new marquee signing Martin Wagner will be unveiled.
