The Cheetahs will head to the Choa Chu Kang Stadium as underdogs when they face Warriors FC on Sunday.
The Cheetahs are currently languishing in 11th place, and are on a six-game winless streak. Eventhough with convincing performances against Courts Young Lions and DPMM in the opening two games, they have failed to continue the purple patch for the following four games, in which a draw and three defeats have followed suit.
However, Hougang had a ten-day break, following the postponement of last weekend’s game against Tampines Rovers, which had a lot of time for the boys to recover and prepare for a visit to the Warriors’ Den.
Warriors, who currently languishing in ninth place, faces almost the same problem as the Cheetahs. With their marquee signing Kazayuki Toda still doubtful and out of fitness, however, the last game saw them winning bottom side Courts Young Lions, which may come as a confidence booster for the eight-time champions.
Without Toda, Warriors would still have strikers Mislav Karoglan and Sufian Anuar for source of goals. While the latter is struggling to find goals, however, Sufian Anuar have been the main source for them to find the net. However, with a shaky defence which have conceded more than the Cheetahs (14 goals to the Cheetahs 12 goals conceded), the Cheetahs might find this game as a return to the “old Hougang” ways.
The last time these two sides met was back in January, where the Cheetahs unleashed Liam Shotton and Robert Eziakor to great effect. A 3-1 win back then showed a much intact Cheetahs side. With Liam Shotton currently having a purple patch of sorts with goals to his name, and the return of Thomas Beattie might also spark a glimmer of hope for the Northeastern side.
