Match Preview: Hougang United vs Warriors FC.

S.League Match 20

Hougang United vs Warriors FC
Thursday 22nd August 2013
Kickoff Time: 7:30 PM
Hougang Stadium.

The Cheetahs will return to S.League action – right after the festive break, with the visit of the Warriors to Hougang Stadium.

Hougang will face two familiar faces in Warriors – first in Jeremy Chiang, who made his move to Choa Chu Kang after being sparsely used during his time in Hougang. The other – the coach Alex Weaver, who will be certainly remembered by the Hougang faithfuls for his short stint earlier in the year.

Weaver will be most certainly wanting to prove his worth to the neutrals, by winning in front of his former charge. He has almost a full squad to choose from, however, he has yet to emerge victorious with his current charges, with two draws and two defeats so far.

For the Cheetahs, the last three games for this season are just mere formalities. However, the Hougang boys are certainly going to prove to Weaver their point. The Cheetahs had four winless games prior to the break, however, with morale boosting wins against Lions XII and NFL side Tiong Bahru FC – 3-0 and 6-0 respectively, they will be looking to lock horns against their former coach.

The Cheetahs will almost have a full squad to choose from, with Azhar Sairudin, Fazly Hasan and Jerome Baker still doubtful for this game, due to sickness. Fazly Jaffar and Faizal Amir will return to the squad, after suspension that kept them out against Balestier on August 5.

The last time the two sides met was way back in May, where Hougang, then still being coached by Alex Weaver, fell to a 2-4 defeat, after being in the lead up till the 79th minute. Three goals in the last 10 minutes disappointed the Cheetahs. This time around, a revenge game is on the cards, with Alex Weaver wanting to prove his old charges wrong, and the Hougang boys, wanting to prove to their old coach that they can be a ruthless side to begin with. Who will emerge victorious?
