Lionel Tan rejoined Hougang United!
The centre-back returned to the Club when he was playing in 2017, before enlisted for National Service.
Having appeared 17 times for the Cheetahs, Lionel will be back playing for the Hougang-based Club once football is safe to resume.
The 1.84m tall player will be eager to strengthen the defensive line after the Cheetahs conceded 10 goals in 6 competitive matches this season.
Lionel certainly feels he has unfinished business with the Club after completing his National Service. “My time with the Young Lions has allowed me to mature as a player, under the guidance of my coaches.”
“With this return to HGFC, I’m excited to build on this maturity and continue to grow as a player with the help of my coaches and teammates.”
When quizzed about his goals and ambitions this year, Lionel commended: “HGFC finished 3rd in the SPL last year which is also their best placing to date. This is encouraging and I hope we can play good football together to achieve an even better position for our supporters”. The collective aim is to retain a spot in the AFC Cup, and to push further for the AFC Champions League spot.
“Personally, I’m aiming to be good enough to secure a place in the senior National Team. It starts with me performing well consistently with the Club and staying injury-free.”
Lionel also fondly remember when he was playing for HGFC in 2017, the cheers from the Hougang Hools could be heard from the pitch all the time. “I’m definitely looking forward to that and winning games together again!”
For now, he has just want everyone to stay safe and healthy during this pandemic.
