When they take on the defending Singapore Cup Winners, Singapore Armed Forces FC.

The Cheetahs have returned to the 2013 season with a totally new coaching staff – head coach Alex Weaver, alongside Assistant Coach Johana Johari and former Warriors custodian, Rezal Hassan, who joined in as the Goalkeeping coach for the season.

Apart from that, the Cheetahs have managed to secure exciting signings to boost up their attacking flair, as well as building the Great Wall of Hougang at the back – with defenders Shahir Hamzah (Lions XII), Jeremy Chiang (Home United); midfielders Thomas Beattie, Jerome Baker, Fairoz Hassan (Gombak United), Liam Shotton (Kidsgrove Athletic) and striker Jordan White, an exciting signing from Scottish Division III side Stirling Albion – all joining most of the class of 2012.

Coach Weaver has promised an all-attacking team, adopting the Total Football idea of the Dutch team in the 70’s. In November, his newly assembled Hougang team had managed a 1-0 win against the NEX Lions Squad, in which Thomas Beattie netted in his first goal for the club.

Apart from that, the opposition team has not sat in their laurels after a disappointing 7th placed finish last season. Recruiting former Japanese International Kazayuki Toda, along with former Lions XII players Hyrulnizam Jumaat, Abdil Qayyim and Sufian Anuar;along with seasoned campaigners Shi Jiayi and Syed Fadhil – the Warriors looked a menacing team of old, where the record 8-time S-League Champions are looking to return to their glory days, with new coach V.Selvaraj now at the helm.

This might be a friendly game, however both teams will be looking to draw the first blood against each other. Don’t forget to join us for this cracking friendly fixture at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
