The Cheetahs got over one of their rivals in the upcoming relegation playoffs – by beating the Warriors 3-1 at Hougang Stadium on Friday.

Both teams met in the league two weeks ago, and the Warriors got a 2-1 victory after Mislav Karoglan got a winning penalty goal, that disappointed the Hougang faithfuls in the last home game.

However, the Cheetahs were playing an almost full squad – Hassan Sunny and Zulfadhli Zainal Abidin both missing due to National Team commitments. Similarly, the Cheetahs were without their no.1 keeper, Fadhil Salim, who sat on the bench in the 6-1 defeat of the Lions in China.

The Cheetahs’ goals were scored by Basit Hamid and Liam Shotton in the first half. Mamadou Diallo finished off the day with a moral boasting victory that will carry on to Round 2.5 – the relegation playoffs to avoid paying the find by finishing the bottom two places. Warriors got a consolation goal through Sufian Anuar in the 2nd half.

The Cheetahs will play Home United in their last fixture of Round two on Sept 19, before heading to the playoffs to determine the bottom two teams.
