HOUGANG UNITED 0
WOODLANDS WELLINGTON 1
Moon Soon Ho 90′
It was end to end stuff at Hougang Stadium, with near misses from both Hougang and Woodlands, however, the Cheetahs were left to rue their missed chances.
A late goal by Rams’ Korean hitman Moon Soon Ho, off a deflection condemned the Cheetahs to their eighth defeat of the season, and brought the Rams to seventh, with a three point advantage.
The Cheetahs were also left to wonder, when they were clearly the dominant side, particularly in the first half.
The Cheetahs handed a debut to new signing Igor Cerina, and he almost had a dream start to his S.League career, heading wide from a Nurhilmi Jasni corner after sixth minute.
Mamadou Diallo then had the best chance of the half when Azhar Sairudin sent the Guibean clear off his marker, only for him to slot the ball past the far post.
It was Woodlands turn on 28 minutes, with Armanizam Dolah providing Moon Soon Ho with an opportunity, but the Korean fluffed his chance from six yards out.
Azhar Sairudin then had a near miss, from his freekick, which deflected off the wall. However, Nurhilmi Jasni sent a pinpoint pass towards Azhar, with his header missing inches from the far post.
The half ended 0-0, with the Cheetahs looking likely scorers for this game. However, Woodlands Wellington had other ideas, as they pressed for the goal they needed.
It nearly came for them three minutes after the restart. Chang Jo Yoon met by an unmarked Taufiq Rahmat in the box, however he headed high above the crossbar.
Another freekick in the 66th minute almost paid dividends, when Azhar Sairudin’s freekick was spilled by Yazid Yasin, only for Mamadou Diallo to delay in the rebound, and the ball was cleared off by Shariff Samat.
However, the best chance came in the 79th minute, when substitutes Jerome Baker and Liam Shotton doing well in the passes. Shotton then sauntered into the box, with only Yazid Yasin to beat, however, the striker shot went agonizingly wide.
However, it wasn’t meant to be for Hougang, as Moon Soon Ho did the honours to snatch the points from Hougang and the Cheetahs ended the game on a frustrating note.
