Aurelien Herisson made two saves in the penalty shootout to help the Jaguars advance to the Starhub League Cup Final at the expense of the Cheetahs with a 4-2 win on penalties.
After a stalemate after 120 minutes , penalties were needed to decide the winner and it was Tanjong Pagar who emerged trumps on Monday evening. In a game where Hougang United producing more chances but were unable to convert them.
Three minutes in to game , Igor Ferriera found himself at the end of a Moura knockdown and fired towards goal but was stopped by Zerka at the right time. Diego Gama also came close to scoring as his free kick was narrowly wide.
Hougang custodian Fadhil Salim displayed a fantastic performance to keep out Zerka effort at the near post on the 42 minute.
Half time remained goalless and the game was equalled by both sides until Igor Ferreira almost execute an excellent acrobatic bicycle kick from a cross by Shunsuke Nakatake which struck Herrisson’s right post.
A few moments later, Fadhil shown why he is Singapore’s National goalkeeper by punching out Monsef Zerka’s goalbound bicycle kick .
With no team getting a goal after the 90th minute it went in to extra time. But still, the winner could not he decided as penalties ensued.
Both team converted their first two penalties. Fazli Jaffar penalty was too obvious to allow keeper Herisson to dive the right way. Ramdani made it 3-2 before Herisson once again denied Fairoz Hasan this time with Anthony Aymard dispatching the winning penalty.
